Our story

Meet Josh, the 17-year-old high school student and creative force behind Josh's Lights. In October, he transforms his backyard woods into a captivating Halloween trail with chilling effects, decorations, and live scare actors. As December arrives, the woods transform into a magical Christmas trail, lit with thousands of LED lights, music, special effects, and more.

Since 2014, inspired by The Great Christmas Light Fight on ABC and his dad's old Christmas lights, Josh has turned his backyard trail into a larger-than-life experience. The Christmas trail, initially small started with just a few lights and decorations. Every year, Josh adds more, resulting in an even more impressive display. In 2025 expect the trail to feature over 70,000 lights, snow effects, synchronized shows, festive music, and more.

The Halloween trail emerged a year later in 2015 with only a few spooky Halloween lights and inflatables. Over the years, he's added more elements and even "professional" effects to scare guests. Recently, he decided to add live actors or scare actors for an extra thrill. In 2025, expect the last Halloween Trail Josh will create for a while. He wants to focus on the Christmas trail and potentially be on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight!

The Christmas trail takes center stage for Josh and his team, offering freedom for festive expression each December. Drawing inspiration from various sources, the trail has become a canvas for creativity with many themed sections such as a western town with several handbuilt wooden structures, a farm complete with a giant barn facade, a magical winter wonderland, Santa's tree farm with many decorated trees, and more, gaining recognition in 2021 from "Main and Broad, a local magazine in Holly Springs, North Carolina.

Embark on this exciting journey with Josh and the Josh's Lights team where holiday magic comes to life, creating an unforgettable experience through the enchanting trails of Halloween and Christmas.

2023 FFA Grant

Josh has recently joined the Willow Spring Chapter of FFA in the role of the reporter. FFA, also known as Future Farmers of America, is an intracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership related fields.

The reporter position within FFA provides experience in communication and public relations, which contributes to the organizations mission of developing well-rounded individuals with a passion for agriculture or related fields. One of the notable benefits offered by FFA are grants for Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). These SAEs are individual projects managed by members, aiming to enhance their agricultural skills and knowledge. Josh took the opportunity to turn his passion for holiday lights and entertainment into his SAE project, which he named Josh's Lights. In November 2023 he applied for an SAE grant amounting to $1000 to expand his business and bring more joy to the community.

Following the approval of his grant in January 2024, Josh has exciting plans to enhance his Halloween and Christmas light trail. He intends to construct a new western-themed building front, a jailhouse, to compliment the western themed section of his trail. Additionally, he plans to transition his entire display to LED for the upcoming 2024 season, with a projected addition of 15,000 new LED lights and decorations, further enhancing the show to over 50,000 LED lights. Josh extends his heartfelt gratitude to the National FFA for their support in realizing his dream of expanding his holiday light business and spreading cheer within the community.
